Review: Unibroue Megadeth Saison 13

Merci Nicolas et Mathieu pour cette bière!

It's been a few years since Unibroue partnered up with Dave Mustaine from Megadeth to create À tout le monde Saison. Well it appears that the beer was such a success that they created a second beer: Megadeth Saison 13.

From the label: "Our "Saison 13" with its pale amber colour and red-orange hues, is brewed with thirteen carefully selected ingredients. This delicious Saison offers the perfect combination of malt, fruit and spices punctuated by the fresh hops taste." 6.1% ABV

Appearance: Pours a dark orange with a bit of an amber hue to it - kind of looks like powdered iced tea drink to an extent. Light amount of carbonation in the body and the head is moderate in thickness, creamy and beige - diminishes fairly quickly to leave behind a light amount of lacing and a light layer of foam on top of the beer.

Aroma: The first thing I'm getting is hops - not quite fresh but gives off a mild piney presence to it, a hint of lemon, sweet caramel malt and a bit of nuttiness. Slight fruitiness, hint of clove and a hint of bubble gum.

Taste: Fairly sweet, floral and piney hop presence to it, notes of caramel, a hint of spice (pepper) that lingers for a moment. It's a bit reminiscent of their Autre Chose IPA but without the peach sweetness (definitely a hint of apple-like fruit). It's fairly dry. Not really getting a Saison vibe from this beer.

Overall Thoughts: I appreciate the hoppiness of this beer but I'm not really finding this to be Saisony at all. It's decently sweet but it just doesn't an abundance of clove, spice, bubble gum, etc that I was expecting. The reviews I've seen have been more rave worthy, maybe it's just the batch I have? But that said, I never did fall in love with Autre Chose IPA.
