Thanks everyone who has supported my non-alcoholic journey here at BeerCrank.ca for over a decade now. Every single day I see people are interested in my NA reviews, making me (arguably) one of the top NA beer critics out there, I keep writing these because you seem to enjoy them!Today's sampling is Japanese-based Asahi Super Dry 0.0 brewed in Italy. I've had this can in my fridge for a few months, so I forgot all about it until today. I've never reviewed the standard version of Asahi Super Dry so I might have to give that one a try to compare it to this.
Asahi’s Master Brewers have combined pioneering Japanese brewing techniques with the finest barley, maize, hops, and yeast available and have now delivered a super-premium alcohol-free beer that matches the promise of the original Asahi Super Dry. 0.0% ABV, 80 calories per 355mL can.
Appearance: Yep, this looks like a lager to me. It's clear with a deep golden straw hue to it, the head is very thick with a bright white appearance to it. The very thick head diminishes pretty much within a minute or two, leaving behind a very nice layered lacing on the glass. This already looks like a winner!
Aroma: It's a bit sweeter and sharper than I was expecting. There's a very sweet maltiness to it that gives off almost a honey or a syrupy kind of aroma to it. There's a bit of a graininess to it, definitely a tad corn-forward. Inoffensive but just a bit stronger than I expected.
Taste: The flavour is definitely on the sweeter side again, I can't quite explain it.. maybe a kind of extract or corn syrup profile to it? It's definitely dry so it lives up to the "Dry" (in quotations) marking on the can. There's a tad bit of a barley graininess to it, which also gives off a slight tartness to it. Grassy hops, a hint of apple.. that's pretty much it. Not much of an aftertaste to be honest.
Overall Thoughts: Decently smooth and inoffensive, dry, and something I could see myself buying again soon. For a beer being brewed out of Italy, Peroni is probably still my preferred option but this is good nonetheless!
