Review: Revelation Upriver Utopia Hefeweizen

Today's sampling is Revelation Ale Works' Upriver Utopia Hefeweizen out of Minnesota. This Hefe is a collaboration with Elm Creek Brewing, also out of Minnesota. 5.5% ABV

Appearance: Starts out lightly cloudy with a golden blonde body to it to quickly clear up. Moderate amount of snow-white head to begin with that diminishes to a light sprinkling on top of the glass. Good amount of carbonation in the body. Clearest Hefeweizen I've seen in a while. There's a bit of sediment at the bottom of the can so as I pour in more and more beer in the glass, it gets a bit hazy again.

Aroma: Heavy on the the wheat - lots of straw, wet bread dough, lemon and a hint of banana. There's a slight tartness to the beer.

Taste: Tartness up front with a bit of grapefruit, a hefty dose of lemon, lots of straw, a bit doughy and a light to moderate amount of banana to it. There's a bit of saltine cracker taste in there, but that's about it, it's pretty crisp otherwise. The aftertaste has a bit of a tart tingling presence at the end.

Overall Thoughts: More tart than I'm used to seeing but easy to drink, lots of tropical notes and banana, pretty crisp and definitely more of a warm weather kind of beer.
