Review: Boombox Arcade Glow Pale Ale

On Friday I reviewed Parallel 49's Riddle Me This IPA which I bought over at the brewery.. today I'm reviewing Boombox's Arcade Glow Pale Ale which is also brewed over at the same facility.

Arcade Glow is a very hop forward  pale ale brewed with water, malt barley, oat flakes, hops and yeast. 5.0% ABV.

Appearance: Arcade Glow pours a hazy not quite orange juice but not quite golden appearance.. so somewheres in between the two? Good amount of head to start off with and gradually diminishes to leave behind a thin layer of bubbles on top of the beer, as well as a moderate amount of lacing on the glass.

Aroma: The first thing I'm getting from the beer is the hops - they have a bit of an herbal, leafy presence with a bit of dill to it. Fairly sweet and tropical with a bit of a caramel malt aroma to it and notes of pineapple, orange peel and obviously fruits that I'm forgetting.

Taste: Pretty much what I got from the aroma - it's decently hoppy with a floral/leafy presence to it, the dill is something I don't really get this time around, but definitely floral/leafy. There's a good deal of breadiness in this beer from the yeast. Decently sweet/citrusy with notes of lemon, pineapple and grapefruit and a definitely Saturday morning breakfast cereal vibe in here with the presence of oats.. reminds me of Alphabits.. ahhh childhood! Fairly dry on the palate and the aftertaste is pretty much the oats.. In 2011 when I felt that oats should be in more beers, who knew that oats would actually show up in a lot of beers?!

Overall Thoughts: Good amount of cereal in this beer, sweet with tropical notes, easy to drink and floral/leafy hop presence. This isn't my favourite from Boombox but it's definitely something I really enjoyed. I picked up a couple cans from Quality Inn Beer Store in Winnipeg since picking up some at P49 so that's always a good sign! I just wish Boombox's beers were available at the LCs in Manitoba but they would never do that.. that makes too much sense!
