It's late 2026 and Seltzers aren't really as popular as they were five years ago.. but neither are craft beers or coolers either. Today I'm sampling a Seltzer because, well.. I like the brewery a lot - Flying Monkeys out of Barrie, Ontario. I've been reviewing their products since 2011, or possibly even earlier.. and even bought their beer in Europe, so hey.. this one sounds interesting so I'll try it out.
Today's sampling is Supersonic Puppy Dreams Craft Vodka Seltzer, with pineapple, mango and orange creamsicle flavours. 5.0% ABV
Appearance: It's carbonated and water in appearance.
Aroma: It has that typical C02 presence that you get from a soda fountain at a fast food chain that ran out of syrup (looking at Burger King, specifically). The most dominating aroma is the orange creamsicle, which is exactly what you'd think, but fairly light. Sure, there's a hint of pineapple in there but I don't really get the pineapple.. the creamsicle vibes are mostly what I get.
Taste: Carbonated water, no noticeable vodka bite in any sense - so that's pretty smooth. Flavour wise it's pretty much orange creamsicle again, but I do finally get notes of the mango, and a hint of pineapple at the end. Lots of carbonation for mouthfeel, a slight bite of an aftertaste that reminds me of 7-UP at the end.
Overall Thoughts: Flying Monkeys' branding is so consistent that I knew that this was a Flying Monkeys product even before I actually focused on the label. It's a seltzer, not something I care for - I'm old but for some reason I still want sweeter notes in my RTD/cooler kind of beverages, but that's just me.
