Today's sampling is Nonsuch's Toast MĂ€rzen Lager. When I was starting to prepare to review this beer, I thought "did I review this beer before?" Well, one of my more popular reviews was a review of a MĂ€rzen they brewed back in 2018 for the 50th anniversary of Brandon University - Nonsuch BU50 Anniversary Ale, which I also revisited back in 2020 thanks to Grant over at Brandon University. 5.6% ABV
Appearance: This beer pours a cloudy, copper body that has an appearance reminiscent to a glass full of Good Host iced tea. The body has a very faint amount of carbonation, and for the head - the head was diminishing pretty much immediately.. until I poured the last bit into the glass.. then my glass overflowed with foam just a tad! The head has a light beige appearance, slightly creamy, diminishes pretty fast but leaves behind a slight lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Lots of toffee-like aroma, a bit of a nuttiness (like almonds), a hint of straw, and a slight hint of toasted brown bread.
Taste: Again, lots of toffee to give it a very sweet-forward experience - which with it quickly turning to fall, this is welcoming. The beer is slightly nutty again, has a bit of a doughiness to it, nothing really popping out for hops. The sweetness lingers on the palate for a good moment, this is decently smooth.
Overall Thoughts: The notes I compared with the BU50 beer are of course, similar but they are definitely different in their own ways. Oktoberfest is coming any day now (if I publish this soon), and this will be well appreciated with a pretzel.
