Review: Twin Sails Would Crush Raspberry Wheat Ale

Thanks again to bdgordonatlarge for another beer to try out! Today's review is of Port Moody, BC's Twin Sails Brewing's Would Crush Raspberry Wheat Ale. Would Crush contains water, malt, wheat, hops, raspberry and yeast.

From the website: This beer started as a traditional American style wheat ale, packed with flaked and malted wheat. We selected a yeast strain with a lower ester profile than its traditional European cousins. We then loaded it full with raspberries until the lid blew off. This beer is teeming with raspberries, backed up by a creamy mouthfeel and light crisp malt profile. 5.1% ABV | 12 IBU

Appearance: Pours a ruby reddish meets grapefruit pink body. The head is minimal with a very faint sprinkling of white bubbles with a bit of a pink hue to it. Kind of looks like Koolaid or fruit punch to me.

Aroma: Mildly tart wheat ale with a moderate amount of raspberry sweetness/tartness to it. There's a tad bit of a graininess to it, a light amount of grassy hops at the end.

Taste: Raspberry sweetness with a moderate tart presence to it. I feel like you're kind of getting the whole raspberry in this beer as I get a bit of that "seed" taste to it as well. Decent notes of wheat to give it a bit of a witbier vibe to it, a very light grassy hop presence. The mouthfeel is fairly carbonated while the aftertaste is a hint of tart raspberry. Hint of lemon as well.

Overall Thoughts: Decent raspberry ale - I find a lot of raspberry beers have an overly syrupy flavour or taste off, this one tastes decent with not only a sweet raspberry flavour but also a tartness you get in every sip. This is something I wish I could be drinking on the patio one of these days.. I think we're all tired of being cooped up indoors!
