Review: Phantom Year of the Unicorn Double India Pale Ale

For today's review, I'm checking out another beer that I picked up at the Quality Inn Beer Store in Winnipeg. Today's review is Year of the Unicorn by Vancouver's Phantom Beer Co. Year of the Unicorn. Year of the Unicorn is described as: "Our fifth and final release of 2018 is our best hazy IPA yet. The late additions of Azacca and (and a little Ella) provide tropical and floral notes. The spelt and white wheat gives the beer a bright, creamy body and mouthfeel. Mmmm, creamy mouthfeel." 7.0% ABV

Appearance: Pours a very hazy orange with a moderate thick off-white head to it. There's a hefty amount of thick sediment that makes its way into the beer at the very end and ends up at the very bottom of the beer glass.

Aroma: Straight up aromatic, sweet, tropical and creamy. There's notes of oranges, pineapple, lemon zest, as well a slight hint of coriander to give it a bit of spice to it. Moderately floral, bit of a caramel malt sweetness to it.

Taste: Sweet, a bit of caramel, tropical with a bit of a creaminess to it that gives off a bit of a Milkshake IPA kind of vibe to it. There's notes of oranges, pineapple, a hint of apple and lemon that pop out in this beer. It's light to moderately bitter, a hint of pine but more floral than pine for the most part. Sweet, creamy, easy to drink and fairly light for a Double IPA.

Overall Thoughts: Solid Double IPA, sweet in every sip, good amount of tropical notes to it, bit floral..  That's about it. It does remind me a tad of a piña colada because of the creaminess aspect to this beer but I don't notice any coconut in here.
