Review: Strathcona Big Sexy Funk India Pale Ale

It's been nearly WELL OVER (AND HALF!) since my visit to Vancouver and my buddy Chris made sure I visited Strathcona Beer Company and this (Big Sexy Funk) was one of the beers I sampled while there.

This dry, hazy IPA is audaciously aromatic with big citrus accents and fresh tropical fruit notes. Crisp, refreshing with Azacca, Citra, and Simcoe hops.

Appearance: It has a bit of a murky lemon-orange juice body with a thick amount of white head on top. The head barely diminishes over time but does leave behind a sprinkling of lacing on the side of the glass.

Aroma: Sweet and tropical. There's a bit of a leafy hop presence to it. Notes of guava, lemon and a hint of pineapple. A tad tart and a bit reminiscent of Five Alive.

Taste: A tad juicy, sweet, dry and yeasty. The fruitiness I get is a bit of guava and lemon. I get a bit of a leafy hop presence to it. Moderate amount of yeastiness, a bit doughy at the end.

Overall Thoughts: Not bad. It's moderately juicy, fairly dry and has an interesting name. I think I prefer their Get Down quite a bit more though.
