Review: Section 6’s The Artist: Watermelon Wheat Ale

Section 6 Watermelon Wheat AleThe peeps over at Brandon's Section 6 Brewing have been pushing for this beer pour for over a year and a half now after a well-needed vacation right after Xmas, a Watermelon Wheat Ale - which they describe as a refreshing watermelon wheat ale with a creamy body and a gentle citrus lift from sweet orange peel. Fresh watermelon: crisp, light, and quietly summer-ready! 5.5% ABV

Appearance: Hazy Wheat Ale with a deep golden vibe. A hazy, deep, opaque, mildy orange body with a cloudy white foam on top that diminishes pretty easily.

Aroma: Watermelon, pretty much a Starbust sugary sweet watermelon candy presence. Slight amount of leafiness to it.

Taste: INCREDIBLY WATERMELON!!11 It’s sweet, it’s watermelon-y, it has a bit of leafy hop presence, notes of watermelon flavoured Starburst candy, and a slight Belgian presence at the very end.

Overall Thoughts: Candy sweet-watermelon ale with a leafy hop presence to it, a tad bitterness to it, fairly sweet.. oh and.. again, watermelon! I’ve had a good amount of watermelon ales over the years and this is easily one of the better ones - while it has a definite candy sweetness, it also tastes more natural than many that I’ve had in the past decade or so. Smooth, definitely a patio beer on a hot summer prairie day.
