Review: Torque Picnic Strawberry Witbier

Today’s sampling is Torque Brewing’s Picnic Strawberry Witbier

Profile: Fresh, light, sweet. 5.0% ABV / 14 IBU

I picked this beer up a couple weeks ago. I love Belgian-style witbiers but I tend to only drink them in the summer time as in the winter, I want something heavier to deal with the miserable long, cold Manitoba winters.

Appearance: Cloudy with a yellow-straw body to it, good amount of carbonation. Snow white head on top that diminishes quickly to leave behind a good amount of lacing on the glass.

Aroma: Sniffing from the can - bit of a burnt plastic aroma, sweet.. so of course you should only drink this out of the glass. Now poured in the glass, it does still have a hint of that burnt plastic aroma unfortunately. It's moderately sweet, has a good deal of coriander to it, notes of strawberry, wheat and a slight nuttiness at the end.

Taste: Thankfully the burnt plastic presence doesn't occur this time around. It's sweet, a tad dry, has notes of clove, a hint of strawberry but ever so faint, a bit of graininess and lemon.

Overall Thoughts: Definitely a beer that should have been released in May rather than January but it's still pretty good. I don't know if this beats their Witty Belgian witbier as I was expecting more of a punch of strawberries in this beer when in reality it's faint at best.
