Review: Vessel Beer Cosmopolitan (Cocktail Inspired Series)

Today's sampling is Cosmopolitan by Winnipeg's Vessel Beer as part of their Cocktail-inspired series. A typical Cosmopolitan is a cocktail made with vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice, and freshly squeezed or sweetened lime juice. Vessel's Cosmo-inspired Sour Ale is 6.0% ABV

Appearance: Cloudy beer with a grapefruit-pinkish body to it. Good amount of carbonation in the body and a thick amount of yellow-beige head on top. The head diminishes rather quickly with no noticeable lacing on the side.

Aroma: Hmm, my first impression of the beer was essentially is it possible that Vessel mixed this beer up with their Moscow Mule? It's bringing me back memories of that beer but seeing that this is also a Sour, it's possible that it's just a coincidence. It's Sour with lots of lime juice popping up. a tad salty but that's about it. No noticeable cranberry or orange popping out yet.

Taste: Okay this might not be their Moscow Mule. When I take my first sip I get a mild orange and a hint of cranberry immediately, but the base of the sour reminds me of Moscow Mule for sure. It's sour, has a good amount of lime popping up and a bit of a graininess to it. It has a bit of saltiness to it as well to give it a bit of a Gose-like presence to it.

Overall Thoughts: Definitely reminds me of their Moscow Mule but doesn't have the ginger burn of the Mule. I would have liked to see a lot more of the cranberry and orange as it was subtle as heck. Sour and a tad salty.
