Review: Oxus Vostok Singularity Double IPA

Oxus Vostok Singularity Double IPA

Today's sampling comes from Winnipeg - Oxus Brewing's Vostok Singularity Juicy Double IPA, brewed with El Dorado, Amarillo, and Nectaron hops. 7.5% ABV. The Vostok series of IPAs at Oxus are named after the Soviet space program back in the early 1960s.

Appearance:
Incredibly juicy and thick as heck. The body is a hazy, deep orange with an insanely thick and frothy snow white head on top that takes a few minutes to diminish, which leaves behind a bit of a layered lacing once it does go away.

Aroma:
Tropical, floral, notes of pineapple, mango, orange, a slight hint of pear/apple, and a tad bit of a milky/creaminess at the very end. A tad leafy, slight hint of black pepper, pretty smooth otherwise.

Taste:
The first thing I'm finding in the beer was the creaminess of the DIPA, it's incredibly silky on the palate. There's a great presence of mango, pineapple, orange peel and lemon in this beer. There's a bit of a leafy hop presence and a tad bit of a peppery spiciness to it that lasts only for a half second or so. Aftertaste is a leafy/mildly pine bitterness at the very end - it's there for a good while.

Overall Thoughts: Incredibly silky smooth with a sweet, tropical presence but also a hint of pepper and leafiness to it. This is similar to a lot of Hazy DIPAs but this one has a bit more personality than most lately.. a bit of black pepper and hop bitterness. I'll be reviewing the other two Vostok IPAs in coming days (hopefully).
