Revue/Review: MacKroken Flower Scotch Ale (Le Bilboquet)

Bonne fête Canada/Happy Birthday Canada. Time for a bilangue review once again. Je commence en franglais.

Merci au Shack à Boisson pour cette bière.. MacKroken Flower, une bière écossaise au miel par Le Bilboquet de Saint-Hyacinthe (Québec).

La MacKroken est agée dans un fût de chêne pour 4 mois pour une saveur riche.

Apparence: Un brune foncé avec un peu d'apparence noisette, pas beaucoup de mousse (juste un peu), un peu d'une teinte de cappuccino, plus brune que la majorité des bières écossaise Canadienne.

Arôme: Si forte.. c'est sembable une combination d'une bière écossaise et une vin d'orge.. une arôme de Scotch, sucré et chêne. Beaucoup de miel pour un douceur que réagit contre l'amertume de la chêne.

Saveur: Tellement sucré du miel, la chêne, un peu de vanille et même si un peu de café. Tellement crémeux en bouche et arrière-goût d'amertume de un saveur comme café. Si bon!

Pensées: Merci à Mathieu pour la MacKroken Flower! Si si bon! Tellement sucré du miel et la chêne.. une des meilleures bières écossaises Canadiennes que j'ai bû!

MacKroken Flower is aged in an oak barrel for 4 months, which gives it a rich and sweet flavour to it. I've had some amazing scotch ales as well as some lacklustre ones, but knowing how awesome the Quebec beer scene is.. I'm looking forward to it!

Appearance: It has a dark brown appearance with a bit of nuttiness to it. Not much head.. just a smidge. A bit of a hue of cappuccino. Much darker than most Scotch ales you find in Canada.. most of them are more of a lighter reddish colour.

Aroma: Very strong! It's like a combination of a Scotch ale meets a Barley Wine.. very sweet thanks to the honey, oaky.. the sweetness of the honey goes against the bitterness of the oak, which is nice.

Taste: Very sweet thanks to the honey and oak. A bit of a vanilla aroma in there, as well as a bit of a coffee bitterness. Very creamy to the palate and there's a bit of a coffee aftertaste.. very good!

Overall Thoughts: Thanks Mathieu for the beer! (oh and the curds!) Very good.. a very decent scotch ale with a bit of a Barley Wine-esque sweetness (thanks to the honey). One of the better Scotch Ales I've seen here in Canada.
