Review: Obsolete Brewing Oktoberfest Olde Wiesn MĂ€rzen

Obsolete Oktoberfest beerIt was only a number of days ago when I visited my closest Liquor Mart asking if there were any Oktoberfest-style beers available this year. I was told "nope, there likely won't be any this year". At this point, pumpkin spice season was already well into swing and they didn't even have a single pumpkin spice beer either. Well, fast forward a week or two, there's a couple pumpkin spice beers.. and more importantly.. two Oktoberfest-style beers available, with Godspeed x Kilter's MĂ€rzen collab I wrote about the other day, and today's sampling being an Oktoberfest Olde Wiesn MĂ€rzen by Dauphin's Obsolete Brewing, a great brewery that I still haven't been able to visit even though it's a fairly short prairie drive for me.

From the can: Step back in time with every sip of Olde Wiesn MĂ€rzen, a tribute to the rich heritage and timeless traditions of Oktoberfest. Named after the "Old Oktoberfest" section of the festival, Olde Wiesn MĂ€rzen brings the nostalgia of Bavaria's past straight to your glass. 6.2% ABV

Appearance: Deep, almost opaque caramel-honey body with a hint of carbonation, and a moderate thickness of beige head on top.

Aroma: Quite sweet with notes of toffee, a hint of honey, a slightly booziness presence, and a hint of bubble gum at the end.

Taste: Decently sweet with a lot of toffee notes to it, a slight caramel booziness to it, a slight amount of bubble gum, and a slight toasted malt/woodiness for aftertaste at the every end.

Overall Thoughts: Pretty much a sweet-forward beer that is missing a few things I got out of the Godspeed/Kilter collab, such as the grassy hop bite, a bit of a grainy/crackery presence, and this one was quite a bit boozier with a bubble gum finish that I didn't get on the other one. This is definitely more of a slow sipper than the other Marzen, but in the days since I wrote this I've purchased this beer a few more times just to wind down.
