Review: Moosehead Grapefruit Radler

Moosehead Grapefruit RadlerI won't deny that I was a bit bitter when I found out that I didn't get the honour of getting the final glass bottle of Moosehead ever made, but I'm sure the person who won had a much better story than I ever did. (Moosehead was my go-to beer when visiting Brandon University's student union pub SUDS for many years - I was easily one of the top Moosehead fans in the world back in 2008).

It's been a while ever since I've reviewed anything by Moosehead, and with summer weather unexpectedly coming out to the Prairies after a very cold winter, I feel it's time to review something that's going to accompany music by Kim Mitchell, hanging out with friends outside for the first time in six months, and well.. anything else that people seem to like nowadays.

Today's sampling is Moosehead's Grapefruit Radler. 4.0% ABV

From the website: Our favourite beer but juicier. There’s no better reward for an active summer than a Moosehead Radler. Our radler recipe was developed using our award-winning lager infused with a hit of natural grapefruit, grape, and lemon juices, delivering a truly unique taste profile that is refreshingly different.

Appearance: Incredibly hazy with a deep, opaque straw kind of body to it. There's a good amount of white head on top that's not overly thick or anything, but is just.. there. The head doesn't really go down at all as the beer is being savoured.

Aroma: This is definitely giving off vibes of a Kim Mitchell Song (specifically 'Patio Lanterns'). This is quite sweet with a heavy grapefruit presence, lemon, a hint of peach, It's sweet. Not getting any real 'beer' notes from it.

Taste: Radlers are meant to be consumed pretty easily and this is no exception. This has a deep grapefruit bitterness to it, decently sweet, a bit of pepper presence, lemon, a hint of peach. The Radler is fairly dry, has a hint of a barley/graininess to it but is pretty much dominated by the juice.

Overall Thoughts: It's a Radler, it tastes exactly what it should taste like. When it's 25C it will be insanely quenching but there's nothing that makes it different from any other Radler, but that also means it's a good one!
