Review: Shrugging Doctor Sangria Zero Alcohol-Free Sangria

Shrugging Doctor Sangria Zero Alcohol-Free SangriaI got burnt out with writing a while back so I took a step back, stopped writing for a bit* and concentrated on what I wanted to do with this website. I decided going forward that I'm going to focus on three areas: First, to showcase products made right here in Manitoba: Manitoba has some real talent out there and never gets the attention it deserves - we're underrated! Secondly, focus on exciting products that are new and exciting to me. This means I'm not going to go out of my way to review Seltzers but I might if it's a brand I trust and already recommend. Third and lastly, to continue to go out and try new non-alcoholic beverages - the industry is only becoming a bigger trend and with BeerCrank.ca being one of the pioneers in the field - I feel like it's my duty more than anything.

Today's sampling actually checks off not one but all three of the focuses I have set out - Manitoban, Interesting, and Non-Alcoholic. We're checking out Shrugging Doctor's Sangria Zero, alcohol free-Sangria.

I believe that Sangria Zero is Shrugging Doctor's first take on a non-alcoholic beverage, with Sangria Zero being influenced by their popular Wonder Sangria. The Sangria is 0.0% ABV with straight forward ingredients like apple juice, ginger ale, sugar, and a bunch of other kinds of juice. 187 calories per 473mL can. You can find Sangria Zero at the winery on Berry Street in Winnipeg, as well as at De Luca's Specialty Food Store.

Appearance: Sangria Zero pours an opaque peachy-red body with a moderate carbonated fizz at the beginning.

Aroma: The first thing I get from this beverage is a kombucha-like sourness to it - it's quite tart up front with a kick of ginger to it, followed by a medley of fruitiness - wildberry, lemon, apple raspberry.

Taste: The tartiness pops out again but this time around it's got a lot more sweetness in every sip - definite apple notes and wildberry. I find the ginger ale is tingling the back of my mouth somewhat aggressively but combined with the fruit and sugars, it's quite nice.

Overall Thoughts: This one’s a fruity little number with a nice zing from the ginger ale, which gives me a bit of a flashback to some of the kombuchas I used to drink (but way more fun). It’s definitely on the sweeter side, maybe a touch too sweet for some, but I can see this being a hit at a sunny afternoon picnic or just chilling on the patio with a few friends. Super easy-drinking and honestly, Willows and team at Shrugging Doctor pretty much made Summer in a can without any added booze!

*Reviews were still being published on a regular basis but few could tell!
