Today's sampling is Les Trois Mousquetaires' Blanche à la Mangue, a mango-forward Belgian-style Wheat Ale. Being in Manitoba, LTM's beers only seem to pop up once every several years but in Saskatchewan I was able to find their beer at two different stores, one in rural Saskatchewan and one in Regina. This one I picked up a Sobey's Liquor Store in Regina - this may be the first time I've ever sampled a LTM beer from a can.. that's how long it's been since I've had a beer by them! This mango wheat ale is 4.6% ABV and according to the cartoon on the back, I'm using the wrong glass..
Appearance: The beer is very thick with a deep orange/mango juice appearance to it. The head is very carbonated so I don't get any head retention, so there's only a couple bubbles on top of the beer once it's poured.
Aroma: I was expecting this to be aggressive but it's actually very tame for a Belgian wheat ale. There's definitely mango there but it's faint yet welcoming. I get a bit of a breadiness, a hint of grain, and a bubble gum aroma at the end. Nothing overwhelming nor aggressive.
Taste: The taste is a bit sweeter than the aroma but not by much - it's got a light mango juice flavour in there, and then I get a bit of a soft chewy candy sweetness to it that's reminiscent of Maynard's. There's a bit of a graininess to it again with a slight Pilsner-like bite at the end.
Overall Thoughts: Decent and I can't see anyone disliking this unless if they're just not a fan of Belgian White beers but this doesn't really give off any spiced notes that can be pretty divisive.
