Review: Rebellion Lentil Beer

Rebellion Lentil BeerLight. Smooth. Delicious. Innovative - That's Rebellion's Lentil Cream Ale! When Regina's Rebellion Brewing came out with a beer that contained lentils in it, it was the very first of its kind in the world and it would be the dominating beer for Rebellion for many years! It only took me a good decade-ish for me to review it!

Appearance: The beer is a tad cloudy with a golden straw appearance to it, while the head is a thick snow-white head on top. No noticeable carbonation in the body and the head diminishes a tad here and there.

Aroma: The beer is sweet, dry, a bit caramelly - I don't know what lentils smell or taste like but one of my buddies said "this is full on lentils", so I believe him. It's got a bit of a graininess to it, slight nuttiness, lemon at the end. An approachable beer so far.

Taste: The first thing I get from the beer is a mildly tart/sour presence that's almost like a mixture of apple and an earthiness at the very end, hint of lemon. The beer has a pretty much "familiar" taste to it, but the nuttiness and mild sour/tart notes are pretty much attributed to the lentils used for the beer - making it a one of the kind.

Overall Thoughts: As someone who has never tried lentils before, I couldn't really describe what they look, smell or even taste like so I'm not the best reviewer for that. I've sampled many Rebellion's beers over the past decade and their Lentil Beer is one of their most popular offerings of all time - it's smooth, sweet, creamy, a bit nutty and a tad tart/sour at the end. A one of its kind and hey.. we'll only see more Lentil-themed beers in the future.
