Today’s sampling is The Establishment (Calgary) collaborating with Kilter Brewing (Winnipeg). Their collab “Soak Up The Sun” is a Hazy IPA described as super hoppy/juicy/tropical with the following notes: Double dry hopped with Motueka and Nelson Sauvin, amplified with SubZero Motueka Hop Kief, and Kohia Nelson Hop Kief from Freestyle Hops. 6.5% ABV
Appearance: Your typical hazy IPA with an opaque and hazy orangeish body to it, very thick snow white head on top that diminishes over the course of a few minutes, and finally a bit of a scattered lacing on the glass as the beer gets sampled.
Aroma: Tropical notes of orange, a bit of lemon, mango, and a slight creaminess coming from the oats. Pretty subdued but your typical Hazy IPA so far.
Taste: A bit of grapefruit with a slight peppery presence following it, some orange presence to it, notes of lemon/lime, and a tad bit of grassiness at the end. Oh, there’s a bit of an oaty creaminess at the end but it’s very minimal.
Overall Thoughts: Tropical, sweet, smooth, tad oaty with a hint of creaminess. This was good but it didn’t wow me at all.
