Review: Malty National Champaul Pilsner Speciale

Malty National Champaul Pilsner SpecialeToday's sampling is Malty National Brewing Company's Champaul Pilsner Speciale. This is described as the World's Best Pilsner, knowing how good Malty National's beers have been over the past ten years - this is going to be a good one but yours truly circa 2016 would be laughing at me if they ever knew I'd become a Pilsner fan one day, but here we are 🤷🏻‍♂️. 4.5% ABV

Appearance: I had to pour this in my trusty Blood Brothers glass, it's been great to me for Pilsners of all kinds. The beer has a mildly cloudy golden straw body to it and two finger thickness of snow white head on top. The head diminishes slowly but gradually, leaving behind a good amount of lacing on the glass as it's slowly getting sampled.

Aroma: Crisp, sweet Pilsner with a bit of straw presence, grassy hops, and a decent amount of lemon citrus presence at the end. A bit sharp but not too sharp. So far, it's a bit reminiscent of a classic Italian Pilsner for me.

Taste: Again, it's fairly sweet, a bit of grassiness, notes of straw, lemony citrus presence, noticeable hop presence. It does have a sweetness that reminds me of "Champagne-style Pilsners", so the name is definitely fitting.

Overall Thoughts: For the Miller High Life fans - you may or may not enjoy this, it's all whether or not if you like grassy and floral hop presence in your beer. I need to buy more of this but I don't see myself going to Regina anytime soon. Definitely one of the best Pilsners in not only Saskatchewan, but also Western Canada. I hope we see a day when glass bottles become a trend again, I'd love to drink this out of a Stubby someday.
