Two of my favourite regional (to me) breweries Kilter Brewing and Malty National Brewing Corporation collaborated on a Double India Pale Ale called Okie Dokii. Super Hoppy/Super Juicy. Brewed with DynaBoost Citra and boule dry hopped with Kohatu, Citra, and Nectaron. 8% ABVIt's been nearly been ten years since a friend and I first visited Malty National Brewing Corporation in Regina, in fact it was the week after it opened. I still remember thinking "this brewery has been only for one week and their first batches are all amazing?! How is that possible!" I also said the same thing about Kilter, and even before they were ever open. I'm actually surprised this beer made it to my local LC in Brandon as one-offs don't tend to make it outside of the Perimeter.
Appearance: Orange creamsicle kind of appearance to it, very opaque/hazy, and has a moderate amount of creamy white head on top. The head diminishes fairly gradually, though it leaves behind a nice amount of lacing on the glass.
Aroma: Quite sweet and tropical. There's notes of grapefruit giving it a sweet and slightly spiced presence, orange zest, pineapple, lemon. A bit oaty, a hint of cracker, pretty straight forward - if you enjoy Kilter and Malty National's beers, you'll love this so far.
Taste: Somewhat bitter but gets immediately replaced by tropical sweetness. There's a good amount of grapefruit in here, lemon, a bit of a creaminess from the oats, cantaloupe, and a smidgen of orange. The taste tingles the tongue for a good while, a bit yeasty, but overall quite smooth.
Overall Thoughts: Pretty much what I'd expect from Kilter and Malty National. A really good Hazy Double IPA that's true to the classics I've seen them do over the past ten years. Speaking of Kilter and Malty National.. I need a couple road trips to Winnipeg and Regina once the weather gets better..
