Review: One Great City Brewing Shoreline Tropical Mango, Pineapple & Passion Fruit Seltzer

This marks a first here at BeerCrank.ca - the first time I've ever reviewed a Seltzer. 2020 has been a really weird year and the trends in the beer industry are no exception. White Claw and other boozy Seltzer beverages became a huge hit in the US a couple years ago but the trend was slow to arrive in Canada but now a lot of breweries are creating the beverage. I don't understand the appeal as it just sounds like soda water and flavouring to me but if a lot of craft breweries are making it, I assume there's a demand for it and people like it.

The first Seltzer I'm ever reviewing is Shoreline Tropical by One Great City Brewing out of Winnipeg. Shoreline is a tropical Seltzer with mango, pineapple and passion fruit. 5.0% ABV, 105 calories

Appearance: Soda water, quite bubbly water, clear, reminiscent of 7-UP, pretty fizzy, if you will.

Aroma: Definitely fruity and tropical with notes of mango, pineapple and passion fruit. I feel like pineapple is the predominant aroma in this drink. Notes of soda water which is a pretty neutral aroma.

Taste: Very fizzy on the tongue. Notes of the tropical fruits as mentioned on the label, mango, pineapple and passion fruit. There's also a bit of a lemon presence to it. On the palate it's pretty much fizzy water but with a touch of sweetness, something that lingers for a quick second and then diminishes to nothing. No noticeable booziness to it.

Overall Thoughts: As expected, this isn't meant for me. I just can't get past the memories of ordering a cerveza + lime in Mexico and getting a gin & tonic, but just the tonic with a bit of a splash of fruit to it. The fruit presence is nice.. and with it being only 105 calories per 473mL serving, definitely not as intense on calories as a regular beer would be, but I definitely feel a tad bloated from this. I'll definitely review more Seltzers in the near future but really only ones that you want me to try, we'll see.
