Today's sampling is Capitaine Winnie, a Hazy IPA with honey by Saint-Boniface, MB's Kilter Brewing collaborated with Sainte-Flavie, QC's Microbrasserie Le Ketch. I've been drinking this far too often lately, including the can I've been meaning to save for my buddy Eric in Montreal. (By the time this is posted, the beer will be on his way)Capitaine Winnie is a Hazy IPA brewed with Manitoban honey and double dry hopped with Citra, Nelson Sauvin, and Motueka. 6.5% ABV
Appearance: Thick and hazy with a lemonish-to-orange hue to it, followed up with thick and fluffy snow white head on top. The head diminishes pretty much after a minute or so, leaving behind a nice lacing on the glass as it's getting savoured.
Aroma: Quite dank, leafy hop presence, pineapple, melon, grapefruit, and a bit doughy at the end. It's got a good amount of sweetness to it from the fruity hops, but the honey does show up at the end, a tad syrupy but just compliments the beer in general.
Taste: Quite sweet, tropical, overall a great Hazy IPA. The first thing I get is the sweetness of honey that gives off a light syrupy kind of presence to it, followed by a bit of black pepper spiciness to it, notes of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, a tad bit of orange. It's a tad doughy, a bit of a leafy hop presence to it, and decently creamy for the mouthfeel. The sweetness of the honey lingers on the palate for a good moment.
Overall Thoughts: I've said that I'm exhausted with Juicy IPAs.. but as I said at the beginning, I've had a hard time keeping this in the fridge, it's liquid gold - the sweetness of honey really compliments the juiciness of the beer. It's floral, a bit dank, quite tropical, very smooth and easy to drink. I know this beer will be out of stock at my local LCs in coming days so I should really stock up.. and I hope I have the will power to keep a can for Eric! Hé Ho!
