Review: Kilter Crush Passionfruit Guava Radler - Is this the world's best Radler?

Kilter Passionfruit Guava RadlerIf you're here, you're probably somewhat familiar with the beer rating app/website Untappd, or at least heard of it. With the demise of RateBeer.com earlier this year and few people writing about beer on forums or blogs now days, Untappd is pretty much the main place on the web to review/rate beers. The two problems I have with it is how people rate beers - say if they don't like dill pickles but for some reason decided to drink a dill pickle Gose, they're going to unfairly give it a very bad review just because they don't like that flavour, or a person is very conservative with their ratings to the point that a beer can be the best they've ever had and only get a 3 star out of 5. Secondly, there's the geographical part - with the United States having a significantly larger user base, a vast majority of the top rated *everything* will be centred on the US, so breweries far off the beaten path (especially outside the USA) may not get any attention, such as a brewery in Nunavut which has a total review count of 1312 since they started several years ago.

So, on a boring rainy afternoon last month I decided to check out "what are the best beers in the world excluding the United States" and the list changed immediately to a bunch of beers by a small handful of breweries from Europe and Quebec. I fine-tuned it further and did a search specifically for Radlers and I quickly noticed one thing - there was a healthy amount of Manitoban offerings on the "Top 50" list. Well, I shouldn't be too surprised as Radlers have been consistently popular in Manitoba for well over a decade now... I have vivid memories of enjoying pitchers of Radler with my buddy Grant at the old Prairie Firehouse restaurant in Brandon.

The Radler that by far had the highest rating on Untappd out of all the other Radlers in the world (outside the USA) was Kilter's Crush Passionfruit Guava Radler - it had a rating of 3.93/5 (as of July 2025) while the runner up was rated at 3.87/5. 3.93 is a reasonable score when there's people flat out rating it 1/5 without giving an explanation why they do it, so I don't have an answer if it will stay number one in the "world", but for now let's try it out and see if I feel like it's worthy of the best Radler in the world! 3.5% ABV

Appearance: Thick peach-orange body that looks like a cocktail more than a Radler to me - just add an umbrella and a wedge of fruit! Minimal amount of off-white head on top that disappears pretty much immediately.

Aroma: If you grew up in the late 90s you may remember Fruitopia - this is kind of what it reminds me of - it's sweet, fruity, tropical as heck. I get notes of mandarins, orange, pineapple, guava and lemon. It's full on sweet with no noticeable graininess or hoppiness from the beer used for the Radler.

Taste: Incredibly fruity and tropical, just like I just stated in the aroma.. it's got it all there. This time around I do get a bit of the beer itself, it's slightly dry with a light straw/grassy presence to it. Very drinkable but it goes down too fast so you may get a bit of a heavy gut from this!

Overall Thoughts: This certainly is one of the gold standards of a Radler but I think I actually prefer Kilter's Crush Peach Lemonade just a tad more over this - which is only available in the 2025 Kilter Crush Radler taster pack (alongside Passionfruit Guava and Pink Grapefruit). I have nothing negative to say - it's paired well with 30C prairie heat and barbecues all summer long so far!
