I actually thought today was the first time I ever reviewed anything by Fargo, North Dakota's Drekker Brewing, but nope - I've reviewed a few others thanks to a good friend of mine a few years back. Today's sampling is their famous Ectogasm India Pale Ale.From the website: Ectogasm is a juicy, hazy, and soft NE IPA brewed with Citra & Mosaic hops. 7% ABV
Appearance: Thick with a consistency and colo(u)r of orange juice all throughout the beer. The head is pretty thick with a nice white hue to it but it gradually diminishes with a layered lacing on the glass as it goes down.
Aroma: I could smell this the second I opened the can - lots of hops! It's got bitter hops, floral hops, tropical hops, juicy hops.. all the kinds of hops! The first kind of hops I get are pine-forward, followed by a whole lot of tropical juiciness - bit of mango, pineapple, lemon. So it's pretty much an IPA smoothie so far.
Taste: Definitely got a hefty amount of dank-ness to it - floral, leafy-tasting IPA with a lot of tropical presence that we saw in the aroma (mango, lemon, orange zest even). It's moderately bitter for the aftertaste, while the mouthfeel is very smooth and kind of watery. A tad bitter but pretty much tropical and sweet.
Overall Thoughts: This is a classic Hazy NEIPA kind of IPA. Floral, hoppy, tropical as heck, absolutely solid offering by Drekker!
