Review: FullGeek BrewLab Hs Helios Hazy IPA

I just discovered this new brewery at the Liquor Mart a few weeks ago, FullGeek BrewLab and I'm not sure who the people are behind this brewery (doesn't help that I've only gone to Winnipeg a small handful of times since COVID began) but I know it's currently brewed over at Stone Angel in Winnipeg, making it currently Manitoba's newest brewery until the next one opens up any week from now.

Today's sampling is Helios Hazy IPA.

From the label: Racing across the sky from morning to night in a chariot of fire. Helios shines light on everything that passes below. This sunny light yellow ray of sunshine has a bright citrus flavour with subtle notes of herb to underpin this crushable IPA. Helios looks down upon all others and bathes them in the warm glow of its brilliance. Water, barley, oats, wheat, hops, yeast. 5.6% ABV 29 IBU

Appearance: Pours pretty much as expected for a Hazy IPA - Very cloudy with a bit of a murky orange juice body and a moderately thick off-white head on top, the head diminishes a tad as it's being sampled, leaving behind a sprinkling of bubbles on the glass.

Aroma: Floral hopped IPA with a bit of melon, lemon, slight creaminess, a hint of sugariness to it and slight bready notes at the end.

Taste: Moderate sweetness with a hint of pineapple, melon, lemon, hint of caramel. Quite smooth with a good dose of raw dough to it. More sweet than hoppy I find, but I don't mind it at all - it's mostly floral and tropical hopped anyways.

Overall Thoughts: I've quickly sampled their beers while watching TV in the recent past but not paying attention to the beer but this is the first time actually giving the beer a try. Solid Hazy IPA, floral, sweet and tropical, I wouldn't say crushable for most people but for people like me.. 100%, though I did baby it as I was trying to decipher the beer as much as I could, ha!
