At some privately-owned beer vendors in Manitoba, they have a beer selection that's usually not available in Manitoba. For the most part, some of them sell Minhas Creek's beer, while the MLCC refuses to do so anymore.
Since Minhas Creek bought out Huber Brewing Company out of Wisconsin a few years ago, they also purchased the line of beers owned by Huber, as well as started brewing their own "specialty" beers.
In this case, Minhas Creek brought Imperial Jack Double IPA to Manitoba. The label states that the beer is "Imperial Jack- robust, malty and heavily hopped. Who said "Jackrabbits" don't bite?"
Appearance: Pours a golden-amber brown, not near as amber as a regular India Pale Ale (ex Half Pints' Scrapper, Garrison Imperial IPA), but certainly hazier and darker than the average Minhas Creek beer (Boxer, Minhas Lager, Lakeshore.. if they still make that). A bit of a beige head. Was carbonated for a few seconds but the head remains.
Aroma: A bit of a citrusy hop aroma, not near as hoppy as most IPAs, but still more hops than Alexander Keith's. Also, there's a bit of a cheap rye whisky (ie Meaghers) type of sweet aroma.
Taste: This is what scares me the most, mainly because Minhas Creek is not known for making good tasting beer. It's all about making beer as affordable as possible to them. Overly malty, they made it way too malty. It doesn't have that nice hoppy/citrus blend that makes it perfect, it's just too malty and sweet. There are hops there but it's almost like it's a sour beer, my face is cringing.
Looking back, I was overly critical about this, I do notice some hops, but there is just too much of a maltiness.
Overall Thoughts: All in all, basically what I expected. A low quality (yet import) beverage on the part of Minhas Creek. It was just under $3.75 for a 650mL bottle (8.5% ABV, 75 IBU). For the price, you get what you pay for. I won't buy this again, but this is likely to give me a buzz by the time I finish this. Too sweet/malty for my taste.

Sounds like it was a *bit* better than what you expected, granted that it came from Minhas Creek.
Coming from Minhas, they stayed away from that nasty corniness that we are used to in Minhas beers.. thankfully.
They wanted to open a brewery in Winnipeg, not sure if it's going to happen. If it does, Canada's going to be flooded with even more corn water. It's a shame that Minhas is now considered one of the largest breweries in the USA
